Perforating Process

Erdle's Production Process

TOOLING Perforating Process

The perforating process starts by designing and machining precision tools to exacting tolerances. Erdle makes all its own tooling with sophisticated CNC machinery, as shown below. Both standard and special hole sizes from 0.020" to 2.25" diameters are produced, as well as square, hexagonal and slotted perforations.

PERFORATING

Modern high-speed computer controlled presses perforate accurate patterns and margins in various materials. This includes steel, stainless, galvanized, tin and terne coated steel, aluminum, brass and copper, as well as plastic, vinyl coated and pre-painted materials. These presses perforate material thicknesses from .008 to .135 inches, and widths up to 60 inches. Erdle subscribes to all standard commercial tolerances of major domestic mills, and those established by the Industrial Perforators Association.

SLITTING Perforating Process

Standard slitting tolerances are +/- .005" on widths to 36" and .010" on widths up to 48". The inside diameters of the coils may be 16", 18", 20", or 24" as required.

CUT-TO-LENGTH

Automatic cutting is performed on material for lengths of from 6 inches to 12 feet, and up to 60" wide. Standard tolerance is +/- 1/32".

BLANKING

Close tolerance work is done to customer requirements for small perforated blanks.

SHEARING

Skilled operators shear blanks having perforated center patterns and margins to +/- 1/32". Without margins the tolerance is +/- .015" on blank dimensions of up to one foot.

ROLLER LEVELING

Erdle has the equipment to bring its perforated material back to the original flatness tolerance provided by the mill.

DEGREASING Perforating Process

Various degreasing processes provide clean, rust inhibiting or oil free material surfaces.

FABRICATING

CNC punching, press brake, punch press, circle shear, and spot welding operations are done in-house for products requiring extra holes, notches, mounting tabs, forming, bending, and cutting.

FINISHES

When finished parts are specified, sources are available for clear anodizing, electroplating and painting.

PACKAGING

Perforated products are protected for shipment according to customer instructions. Wooden crates, boxes or cartons are made for each job as required.

SHIPPING

Erdle plants are equipped to handle all skids and coils up to 20,000 lbs. for shipment by truck, rail, or air.
